Escuela Rural (Rural school)

The purpose of this blog is to show our identity to the world.

The school (Escuela Rural N° 4 José Hernández) was founded in the region known as "La Lata" in 1884 to function as a primary school for the people living in the far-off "ranchos" in the outskirts of the Greater Southern Buenos Aires region.

Some years later the secondary school (ES N° 12 Anexo) was opened because the students who finished their primary courses had barely any chance to start their secondary level unless they traveled long distances through muddy roads.

Since then, many years have gone by, but everybody who actually worked or studied there would say that there is something special about the place, some king of mystic in the air, like in the memorable MARTIN FIERRO written by our great José Hernández (the school was named after him). "El campo", as we call it, has all these elements told in the story, a hard and struggling life, fellowship among people, nature in its greatest expression, folklore music and marvellous dances with especially dressed-for-the-occasion gauchos and "chinas"(ladies) and of course we do not forget about the delicious foods, such as, "empanadas", "tortas fritas" , etc which are also part of the festivals.

When I first started working here as a teacher somebody told me:
"There are a lot of interesting stories in our community, some of them are real and some others are fake. Nevertheless, whenever we are off-duty and we get together to share our beloved "mate" or when we eat our delicious "asados", these stories are told over and over but we never get bored... "

"Identity"

This year's project is called "Our identity".
As we were given our first computer, Prof. Guillermo Torres thought that it might be a great idea to work on a blog where all the students and teachers might express what things they consider part of our Argentine identity.
Given the fact that most of the students help their parents in their tasks as farmers, we decided to include some of the students' stories.
In the area of arts, the students painted some parts of the walls with incredible gaucho's drawings trying to imitate the famous Argentine painter Molina Campos.

Desde entonces, muchos años han pasado, pero quienes en realidad trabajaron o estudiaron allí dirían que hay algo especial acerca del lugar. Algo de mística en el aire, como en el memorable Martín Fierro escrito por José Hernández (la escuela fue llamada así por él). “El campo”, como la llamamos nosotros, tiene todos esos elementos contados en la historia: una vida dura y de lucha, amistad entre la gente, naturaleza en su más maravillosa expresión, folclore y bailes maravillosos con gauchos y chinas vestidos especialmente para la ocasión, y por supuesto no nos olvidemos de la deliciosas comidas, como empanadas, torta fritas ,etc. las cuales son también parte de los festivales.

Cuando comencé a trabajar allí como profesor alguien me dijo: “Hay un montón de historias interesantes en nuestra comunidad, algunas de ellas son reales y otras son falsas. Sin embargo, cuando no estamos ocupados en nuestros labores, nos juntamos a tomar mate ó comemos nuestros deliciosos asados, esas historias son contadas una y otra vez pero nunca nos aburrimos al escucharlas”.

El proyecto de este año es “Nuestra identidad”
Como nos han dado nuestra primera computadora, el profesor Guillermo Torres pensó que podría ser una fantástica idea trabajar en un blog donde todos los alumnos y profesores puedan expresar libremente lo que ellos consideren parte de la identidad de la Argentina.
Debido a que la mayoría de los alumnos ayudan a sus padres en sus tareas como granjeros , nosotros decidimos incluir algunas de las historias de ellos.
En el área de artes, los alumnos pintaron algunas partes de las paredes con increíbles dibujos de gauchos tratando de imitar al famoso pintor argentino Molina Campos.

Muestra en Sede

As the school year was about to end, we were kindly invited by the school headmistress to take part in the school fair.
We were very delighted to see all the students' projects. we also took some time to talk to our dear colleagues there and share some experiences of our profession.

Al término del ciclo lectivo, fuimos invitados por la directora de la ES N°312 para formar parte de la Muestra Escolar.
Nos alegró mucho ver las producciones de nuestros alumnos. También tuvimos la posibilidad de charlar con nuestros colegas y compartir experiencias de nuestro trabajo.
